It was 2012 when the biggest patent war sparked off and at that time Samsung was ordered to pay Apple a whopping sum of $1.05 billion for damages caused due to infringing patents. There was a huge spat and Samsung pleaded that the numbers should be revised and a new trial took place which ended in a fine of $929.8 million.
Today, the case (that was still going on) has finally been closed with Judge Lucy Koh awarding Apple an approximate value of $930 million. However, Apple’s request of banning permanent sales of Samsung’s infringing products has been denied and the court has said that Samsung is free to sell the products in the US.
The focus will now shift to the second patent trial slammed by Apple on the South Korean electronics giant which targets the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone. While the smartphone is out-dated, it is still selling in number of markets around the globe. According to experts, the future trials could end in much more sophisticated damages for Samsung and bring in even higher amounts for Apple than the first trial.
