After offering videos in 4K on a computer’s web browser, YouTube has updated its app to support 1440p videos for LG G3 users. So, LG G3 users can now watch videos at an impressive 2560 x 1440 resolution.
Low bandwidth and buffering lags will still be a problem as a 1440p would require a lot of bandwidth but you get 1440p video quality which is a big plus. As for the other 2K phones like the Oppo Find 7 which is not being supported yet by the YouTube update, streaming videos would still be a 1080p affair.However, we might see 1440p YouTube support natively on upcoming phones and tablets with 2K displays.
The LG G3 is the new flagship from LG which sports a 2K display (2560 x 1440p). Since the start of this year, the war of 2K displays has been waging and now that a handful of phones boast 2K displays, streaming services have started to push the standard. YouTube is the largest video streaming website in the world, acquired by Google in the 2006 has grown many folds. 2K is here to stay and as the technology advances it will surely become the new standard.
