LG G watch now anti-corrosive thanks to software update
Regular users of the LG G watch, which started selling just last month, are complaining that the charging port on the back of the plastic watch is corroding. The corrosion is a result of galvanic corrosion which is an electrochemical process in which basically a metal corrodes in presence of electrical current (in the watch itself) and an electrolyte (sweat). LG has revealed that it is rolling out a software update to solve the problem.
LG’s update would simply stop the current flowing through the connectors when the watch is not charging and that will stop the corrosion. It is also worth noting that LG is working with Google for the smartwatch since it runs unhindered Google Android Wear and that this might be a software problem from Google’s end.
Since then a Google representative has confirmed to Android police:
We haven't heard any reports from the LG G watch owners who bought the watch in India but we will update the post as we get further information.
