Google Maps now lets you add missing places

Google has updated a new feature in Maps that allows users to add missing places and points-of-interest to Maps directly from their mobile apps. Along with the Android app, Google has also updated the web-based version of the service, but this feature is not available for iOS yet.

To access the feature, you need to simply tap anywhere on a map, and fill in the complete full details of the address. Now click on the ‘Add a Missing Place’ link, and you’ll be able to complete Category, Place Name, Phone Number, and Website.

Google allows users to add any categories including Shops, Bars, Theaters, Schools, Hospitals and Parks. Google also notifies the user that they’ll receive updates on the status of these changes to the associated Gmail address, and they may also be published under their account on Google Map Maker. Google also lets you can import information directly from a spreadsheet as well as organize and style your map in layers instead of having to adjust the map point-by-point. Users can also share their map via Google Docs.

Google has been constantly updating its Google Maps to make them more interactive and useful. The internet giant recently acquired San Francisco-based social travel application maker JetPac that uses pictures from different social networking sites to create city guides. Google hinted at using Jetpac's technology in Google Maps and Now in nearby places of interest that would align with the users’ interests.
