Google has announced that YouTube will be available to users in Offline mode in India in coming weeks. This means, users will be able to download videos in the YouTube app when they are connected on Wi-Fi, and view it later without a data connection.
The feature will be useful in India which has the slower internet speed, poor 3G connectivity and expensive data plans. With YouTube Offline, users would be able to see their favourite videos while they are connected to the faster Wi-Fi network at home, rewatch it offline according to their convenience. Google has mentioned the exact details yet and has not specified if there is a restriction on the number of videos you can download. With unlimited video viewing users may never have to pay for data charges again and how will Google earn advertising revenue from offline videos remains to be see.
Google made the announcement along with the launch of three new handsets under its Android One initiative. The internet giant has launched Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream UNO under the program. The Karbonn Sparkle V priced at Rs 6,399 is available online exclusively at Snapdeal, the Micromax Canvas A1 priced at Rs 6,399 is available online exclusively at Amazon while the Spice Dream UNO priced at Rs 6,999 is available online exclusively at Flipkart.
