If Apple does indeed launch new iPad models at its Oct. 16 press event, shoppers may not have to wait long to pick one up. According to reports from MacRumors, Apple's new tablet lineup could be hitting stores on Oct. 24.
The news comes from tipsters that have previously given MacRumors accurate information, and lines up nicely with Apple's usual strategy of announcing a product one week and releasing it at the end of the next. The iPhone 6 was unveiled on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and released on Friday, Sept. 19, so a launch date of Friday, Oct. 24 for the new iPad family wouldn't be too out of the ordinary.
Based on rumors, we could see a sequel to both the iPad Air and the iPad mini at Apple's Oct. 16 presentation. The purported iPad Air 2 is expected to pack a speedy A8X processor and Touch ID fingerprint reader, and it could be compatible with the upcoming Apple Pay mobile payments system. The new iPad mini may also tout touch ID, while packing the same A8 processor as the iPhone 6. Both tablets are rumored to ship in a new gold variation.
Apple allegedly has a larger, 12.9-inch iPad Pro in its pipeline, but production reports suggest that we won't be seeing the super-size tablet until early 2015.
The official details on Apple's new iPads should become clear on Oct. 16, when we also might hear about new a new iMac with Retina Display. We'll be on the ground in Cupertino, so stay tuned for announcements and hands-on impressions.
