HTC Desire Eye, selfie phone with 13MP front camera unveiled
HTC is the latest company to launch a selfie smartphone.  At its much hyped Double Exposure event, HTC unveiled ‘Desire Eye’, a selfie-smartphone featuring 13MP front and rear cameras with dual LED flash.
The HTC Desire Eye has a large front facing camera placed above the screen. The front facing camera has same capabilities of the rear one, featuring dual LED flash and a dedicated microphone. Both cameras can capture 1080p@30fps video.  The phone also has front-facing HTC BoomSound Speakers. The phone sports a unibody construction with a plastic case with IPX7 waterproof.
The HTC Desire Eye has a 5.2-inch full HD display. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor along with 2GB of RAM and runs Android 4.4 with HTC Sense 6.0 interface.  The smartphone has 16GB internal storage, supports additional 128GB storage via microSD. A 2400 mAh battery powers the phone.
HTC has included a new EYE experience on the new smartphone. The new mobile imaging software brings voice selfies, allowing you take photos with voice commands such as Say Cheese. To shoot video, you need to say Action. There’s also a Live Makeup feature that lets you correct your photo, and a Face Fusion feature that crams two faces together.
HTC also uses the two 13MP cameras to allow users combine simultaneous photos and videos taken on the front and back cameras into one split-screen image or video. There’s a Crop Me in feature that lets you impose your selfie over the image taken by the rear camera.
The company will be rolling out the EYE Experience on to the following models in the coming months: HTC One (M7), HTC One (M8), HTC One E8, HTC One mini, HTC One mini 2, HTC One max, HTC Desire 816, HTC Desire 820 and HTC Butterfly 2.
The HTC Desire EYE will be available across EMEA, Asia and the US starting in October.  There’s no word on the pricing of the smartphone as yet. Learn more about the Desire Eye smartphone here.
With selfie becoming massively popular, smartphone companies have made efforts to improve front facing cameras. Recently, Nokia launched the Lumia 730 with a 5MP front facing wide angle camera. Sony also launched the Xperia C3 with a 5MP front snapper.
