Over 1 bln mobile subscribers added globally in the last 4 years
In the last four years more than one billion mobile phone subscribers have been added globally. The total number of mobile phone subscribers have reached 3.2 billion, almost half the earth’s population.
According to a report more than a billion of these devices are smartphones. 10.5 million jobs are supported directly by the mobile ecosystem, or through proliferation of apps that change the way we perceive and interact with the world. The Saudi Arabian mobile phone market is one the largest in the Middle East with over 53 million mobile subscriptions by 2013, and a mobile penetration rate of 181.6 per cent, i.e., almost 2 mobiles per user.
The latest trends and opportunities in mobility will be discussed at the 3rd edition of ArabNet Riyadh, from November 11-13 in Saudi Arabia.


According to a recent report by GSM Association, Mobile network operators are expected to earn about $576 billion as revenues by 2020. The revenue to is expected to come from a broader ecosystem, including areas of applications, content and advertising, which is going to be a 16 per cent rise in their revenues. The GSM Association disclosed the numbers in a report titled: The Mobile Economy 2014. The report added that the mobile sector hoped create about 15.4 million jobs by 2020, while so far the industry had created 10.5 million jobs globally. GSMA forecast that nearly 880 million unique subscribers will be added by 2020 from developing countries.
